Watch “The Loved Ones” because it is good

I consider myself a horror fan. So when my brother — who isn’t a particularly big horror fan — told me to watch The Loved Ones, I assumed it had to be crap since I’d never heard of it. In fact, it’s not crap, it’s really good. A modern b-movie it may be, but it’s a quality film, and probably one of the most brutal horror films in a long time.

Of course, there are much more gory horror films, but The Loved Ones focuses more on atmosphere than effects. And more importantly it’s original, which is impressive and something that’s getting harder and harder to do.

The film also takes a lot of chances. Like Wolf Creek, it doesn’t hold back when it comes to showing everything, and that makes for an intriguing story.

Watch it as soon as you can.

*Finally* watched it, Chris. What fun! The bits with the drill I kept thinking were not going to happen….and then they did! That was hand over mouth stuff…and the hammer.. : /
The boy who plays Brent actually has a big role in Twilight: Eclipse!! I didn’t recognise him behind the mop. IMDB revealed it. I thought the girl who played Lola was amazing. It was a good movie, felt ending could have sewn things up a bit more but for a directorial/writer debut of a big film, pretty damn cool ; ) x
